Ceramic Splashback
Our clients in Eastville, Bristol were in the process of installing a brand-new kitchen and wanted a clean, modern finish to match. The existing space had exposed gas boiler pipework, and a window sill that was just blockwork, along with uneven walls that would have made tiling directly a poor option.
They chose a classic rectangular gloss ceramic tile in a rich blue, laid in a traditional brick bond pattern. For contrast and sharp lines, we used brilliant white grout throughout.
Challenge, Materials & Conclusion
As with many older properties in Bristol, the walls weren’t perfectly flat, so we fully boarded and skimmed them to give the tiles a clean, even surface to bond to. The window sill also needed building up before tiling, so we used the correct materials to ensure strength and durability before matching the finish to the splashback.
One of the key issues in the space was the visible boiler pipework beneath the new boiler. We designed and built a custom removable box using moisture, and heat-resistant materials, then tiled it to match the rest of the splashback—giving a much cleaner finish without compromising access.
ULTRATILE products were used throughout for the adhesive and grout, along with trims from Original Style Tiles. The result is a modern, practical splashback that complements the kitchen while protecting the walls from daily wear.
