Herringbone Floor Tiling

Herringbone Floor Tiling

The previously installed laminate appeared worn-out and had experienced water damage as a result of the previous Frampton Cotterell based owners cleaning up after their pets. The solution seemed obvious: installing porcelain tiles that maintained a wood-like appearance, arranged in a herringbone pattern (also known as parquet). This choice would ensure durability and require minimal maintenance. Flex Tiling installed an underfloor heating mat and applied a latex leveler over it. The old MDF skirtings were removed and later replaced with oak, resulting in a seamless finish. Finally, the tiles were grouted with a colour called “pecan.”

Challenge, Materials & Conclusion

The herringbone pattern presents a unique challenge as the tiles are set at a 45-degree angle to each wall. This requires additional precision and careful planning to ensure that the tiles are centred in the room. The porcelain tiles used in this project were highly compressed and featured a textured surface, making each cut require expertise and accuracy. Working with a herringbone pattern requires expertise and attention to detail. Each tile needs to be precisely cut and positioned to ensure a seamless and balanced look.

At Flex Tiling, we prioritise the utilisation of premium materials in all tile installations. With a keen attention to detail, we analyse the specifications of each job to ensure the selection of the most appropriate products. Every installation carried out by Flex Tiling reflects our commitment to excellence and adherence to the highest standards of craftsmanship. By employing this dedicated approach, we consistently deliver exceptional results that exceed our clients’ expectations.

One of the main advantages of the herringbone pattern is its ability to visually expand the room. The diagonal layout creates an optical illusion that makes the space appear larger and more spacious. This makes it an ideal choice for smaller rooms or areas where you want to create a sense of openness.
